One of the larger muscle group in the body, the gluteus group. Gluteus muscle group consists of gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus and gluteus medius which along with the hamstrings, biceps femoris, semitendinosus and semimembranosus work together to perform the hip extension, abduction and rotation functions. A good gluteus development is also a great help as we develop a great deal of power from the gluteus maximus while performing any strength involving movements.
Squats, lunges, stepups and deadlifts are some great exercises to help develop your gluteus group to the maximum. Here are some benefits of training an having a strong gluteus muscle development.
Here are a few benefits of strong gluteus muscles:
1. Better posture: A lot of us suffer from a poor posture, majorly due to weak or inflexible hip extensors that lead to a swaying back kind of posture or kyphosis-lordosis where the persons upper body is more inclined towards the front. Having a strong gluteus muscle will help better the posture and improve everyday activities like walking, running etc.
2. Injuries: A weak gluteus muscle activates muscles that are not supposed to be doing the functions they carry out and get weakened over time. Weak glutes cause an imbalance in the total body and thereby increasing the chances of injury. Strengthen glutes to have a symmetrical development and proportionate strength across your body.
3. Power: Gluteus maximus which is the largest muscle in the body generates a lot of power. Power that we use for a lot of activities during the day. Running, jumping, walking etc become less demanding on your body. Also strength training movements like the squats, deadlifts etc improve with more immediate force being generated from the glutes.
