Artificial trans fats (or trans fatty acids) are created in an industrial process that adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid. Some amounts of trans fat is also naturally occurring in products like beef, lamb etc. A diet that is heavy on trans fat coupled with sugars is a tremendously unhealthy diet that needs to be looked at critically before you start facing health issues. Trans fat cause clogging of the arteries and are hence to be avoided at every cost.

One of the best ways to restrict trans fat is to start reading the label of every food your purchase. This helps you to understand the food categories that are high on trans fat and lets you plan your diet accordingly.
