Understanding Tendinitis

There are various injuries that happen in sport, some are controlled some occur as a consequence of overuse, un attended previous injuries etc. tendinitis is one such injury that occurs because of various reasons, some controlled while some neglected. Tendinitis, also known as tendonitis, is the inflammation of a tendon. It happens when a person overuses or injures a tendon, for example, during sport. It is normally linked to an acute injury with inflammation.

Tendinitis can occur at any age and is usual in athletes as it most occurs due to movements that get repeated a lot. Hence athletes in sports such as running who perform repeated movements are more susceptible to such injuries.

The risk factors that are involved in tendinitis include 1. Age: As tendons get weaker and less flexible with age, tendons are more likely to be injured. 2. Occupation: Jobs that involve doing a particular movement more often. 3. Sports: Performing sports with repetitive action and coupled with bad technique creates high chances of an injury.

Taking note of your movements is very important. Understand of your body if its going through pain on a particular movement and take rest. Technique is another factor in preventing injuries. Warming up helps the the joints and muscles stay warm plus prepare your body for the movement along with the CNS adaptation.

Without proper treatment, tendinitis can increase your risk of experiencing tendon rupture , a much more serious condition that may require surgical repair.
